Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers MLC election: BJP's Dhruv Tripathi leads independent Rajiv Yadav by 466 votes after first-preference counting, while SP candidate Sanjayan Tripathi alleges irregularities and boycotts the process.

The Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers MLC election has turned into a close contest, with every vote drawing attention as BJP candidate Dhruv Tripathi maintains a narrow lead over independent candidate Rajiv Yadav. According to the figures released after the completion of first-preference vote counting, Tripathi is ahead by 466 votes, while Samajwadi Party candidate Dr Sanjayan Tripathi remains in third place.

Dhruv Tripathi has secured 11,881 votes, while Rajiv Yadav has received 11,415 votes. The contest between the two candidates remains closely watched as the counting process continues to draw attention.

Samajwadi Party candidate Dr Sanjayan Tripathi has raised serious allegations regarding the vote-counting process. He claimed that the counting proceeded smoothly for the first three rounds, during which independent candidate Rajiv Yadav was leading by approximately 450 votes.

According to Sanjayan Tripathi, the trend changed suddenly after the initial rounds, with votes appearing to favour the BJP candidate overwhelmingly. He alleged that the election appeared to have been predetermined and said he decided to boycott the counting process as a result.

The other candidates have received the following votes: Ram Pratap Ram, 477; Dr Rakesh Singh, 448; Pankaj Kumar Singh, 377; Satyapal Singh, 322; Dr Sharadendu Kumar Tripathi, 112; Dr Rajesh Pandey, 80; Rakesh Kumar Tiwari, 62; Dev Bhaskar Tiwari, 52; Shiv Shyam Yadav, 37; Dr Nirankar Ram Tripathi, 24; and Dinesh Kumar Mishra, 13.

According to the figures, a total of 40,811 votes were declared valid, while 2,800 votes were declared invalid. The total number of votes cast has been reported as 43,611.

The counting of votes for the Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers Constituency began on Tuesday, October 27, at the Commerce Faculty Building of Gorakhpur University. The administration had arranged 14 tables for the counting process and deployed staff in two shifts to ensure that the work was completed in an organised manner.

The process began with the opening of ballot boxes. Ballot papers were then arranged into bundles of 50, and their numbers were matched against the figures recorded in Form-16. Once the verification was completed, the counting of ballot papers began.

Since the election was conducted through ballot papers, each ballot had to be examined and votes counted according to the preference marked by the voters. This process contributed to the time required for the counting of votes.

The figures for valid and invalid votes have also emerged as an important aspect of the counting process. Of the total 43,611 votes reported, 40,811 were declared valid and 2,800 invalid.

Police personnel were deployed at the counting venue to maintain security, while senior police officers monitored the arrangements. Counting agents were issued passes, and only pass holders were permitted to enter the counting premises.

The Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers Constituency covers 17 districts, keeping the counting process under close scrutiny by candidates and their supporters.

With Dhruv Tripathi leading by 466 votes over independent candidate Rajiv Yadav in the first-preference vote count, the available figures indicate a closely contested election. The allegations raised by the Samajwadi Party candidate have also brought the counting process into focus, alongside the narrow margin separating the leading candidates.
